Sunderland Marine provide  comprehensive, 'all risks' livestock and equipment insurance for every type of aquaculture facility. Abalone, salmon, tuna, kingfish, freshwater recirculated systems and moored cage farms. Policies are tailor made to suit the nature of the fish, the type of farm and the owner's insurance requirements. The Company is a member of the Insurance Council of New Zealand, abides by the  NZ  Fair Insurance Code and is rated A- by AM Best and A- by Fitch, International rating agencies.

Risk Management

Insurance is only one part of a risk management strategy  wholly embraced by Sunderland Marine. The Company look closely at all risk components including staff experience and qualification, system design, species being farmed, site history, infrastructure and financial security. Working with the insured farmers, loss situations are appraised and mitigation strategies implemented in order to minimise and prevent claims occurring where ever possible. However, not every event is predictable nor is every situation controllable and catastrophic loss does arise from time to time. Typically, from new disease or extreme weather and environmental conditions. At this time sound Insurance Cover is often the only thing remaining that will ensure an aquaculture business remains viable after a significant loss of stock.
